News at City Union Mission

Co-Chairs for the Women Who've Changed the Heart of the City have been named
January 07, 2010

City Union Mission has announced its co-chairs – Judy Steadman and Karen Fenaroli - for its third annual Women Who’ve Changed the Heart of Kansas City event. The event is scheduled for Tuesday, April 20, 2010 with proceeds to benefit Camp CUMCITO for children, City Union Mission’s camp in Warsaw, Mo.

“We are thrilled to have Judy Steadman and Karen Fenaroli as this year’s event co-chairs. This fundraiser is crucial because it makes it possible for up to 500 homeless and low-income children to attend camp this summer,” said Dennis Chapman, associate executive director of City Union Mission.

Steadman, now retired, formerly worked as an executive assistant to the Kansas City Chiefs Chairman of the Board. Prior to her work with the Chiefs, Steadman’s career includes executive secretary to the director of Citizens Conference on State Legislatures, assistant to the pastor of her church, worked in an administration function at the Raytown School District where her late husband, Dix Tewksbury coached, US Forest Service, and FBI in Minneapolis.

Steadman’s civic involvements include having served on the steering committee for Muriel Kauffman Women's Heart Center and Operation Breakthrough. Her true focus is working one-on-one with people who have special needs.

Karen Fenaroli is vice president of EFL Associates, a leading executive search firm, where she specializes in finance and operational opportunities for a wide variety of industries. Prior to joining EFL, she was the chief executive officer of a wholesale manufacturing company with four overseas factories and distribution through 200+ retail stores in the United States, Canada and Europe. Fenaroli has also worked for Coca-Cola Enterprises and KPMG in Atlanta.

Since relocating to Kansas City in 2007, Fenaroli has become active in two principal outreaches:  City Union Mission and The United Way of Greater Kansas City. At the Mission, she has acted as co-chair for the Women Who’ve Changed the Heart of Kansas City Luncheon since 2008. Also, she serves on the Women’s DeToqueville committee for the Greater Kansas City United Way and co-chair of its Women’s Leadership Council launch. In 2003, she was the recipient of Massachusetts’s Commonwealth Institute’s Entrepreneurial Spirit Award that recognizes outstanding women-owned businesses.
