At the beginning of March Dennis Chapman, the Associate Executive Director of Development, held a press conference, along with Sgt. Dan Carney, announcing the Give 8 Ask 8 initiative to the Kansas City community.
People had been asking him what he was going to do with the money order he received from the man he helped 21 years ago. With all the talk about stimulating the economy he decided to create a stimulus for a rescue agency he respects by giving it to City Union Mission. He called Dennis Chapman telling him he wanted to donate the money to the mission and said he thought it would be great if everyone in the Kansas City area would do the same. Dennis agreed suggesting an initiative for people to rally around: Give 8 Ask 8. $8 provides the mission with more than one day’s food for one person. It was a simple idea: Give $8 to City Union Mission and ask 8 of your friends to do the same. Give 8 Ask 8.
Dennis Chapman said, “So far the Give 8 Ask 8 initiative has resulted in almost $3,000. Don’t know when we’ll have a final count. It has taken on a life of its own and keeps developing. We’re even getting national attention. $3,000 translates to upwards of 1,500 meals for people who might otherwise go hungry. If you were one of the ones hurting because of the financial climate how much do you think it would mean to you to know there are safety nets available like this? Thankfully Kansas City has always shown care for those less fortunate. We can sure be proud of that.”
Sgt Dan Carney, “Because of the $8 money order Alfred returned, we were not only able to stimulate funding for City Union Mission, but also helped start a new series with one of the local TV stations that will be giving money to people in need. We set out to stimulate people to give, even a small amount to help raise funds for the less fortunate, and in that we succeeded! I’m quite happy.”
Valley View Bank, serving the local community since 1966, handled the cash and check donations at their 10 locations. To find out more information about the bank, please click here, or call 913-381-3311.
