This morning the Camp woke up to sunshine!!! It was a welcome change after six straight days of rain. After welcoming the sunshine, everyone put their energy into preparing for 40 teen girls traveling to Camp CUMCITO from Kansas City. The bus arrived to the sound of cheering staff and the ringing bell.

The first day of camp includes the much anticipated cabin assignments, choosing activities for the week, the "swim test," canteen, and an elective activity after supper during the 'Optional Activity' time.

One of the 'Optional Activities' is playing on the lake trampoline. In order to reach the trampoline, campers put on lifejackets and swim nearly 30 yards to reach the ladder. There are always a few campers who are fearful of the lake water and choose to refrain from the activity. Today, there were two returning campers who have NEVER gotten into the lake due to their fear of the water and distance. Their counselors gently encouraged them and for the first time EVER they jumped in and had the time of their life playing on the lake trampoline. One of the girls even launched another camper off the end of the 'blob'.
The teaching theme for this week is LOVE. The girls are participating well in chapel as they consider what the world says about love and what the Bible says about love. They have been given a clear vision of what love is and what love is not. Each night as the girls leave chapel to partake in devotions, the remaining support staff gathers to intercede for the cabins. Tonight staff prayed specifically for two cabins with special circumstances and all of the cabins' devotional time. Following devotions, the girls prepare for bed, exhausted, yet anticipating the activities which lay ahead.

The first week of camp is off to a great start. The campers are excited to be at camp, the counselors and supporting staff have enjoyed the first full day with the girls, and lights out brings the quiet peace of sleep and rest. Please remember to pray for Camp CUMCITO as the girls are given ample opportunity to hear the gospel of Jesus Christ. Please pray for the counselors as they give all of their time and energy to these young girls for the sake of the Kingdom. |
