City Union Mission Guests Thank BWAM
May 09, 2007

Erin is a single mom who comes from an abusive background.  She is learning how to cope with past emotional issues, along with valuable life skills and parenting skills.  “Being at City Union Mission has shown me that there is hope beyond the storms in my life.  I want to thank Bikers With A Mission.  Because of your funding I have bus passes so that I can look for work.  Thank you so much for your support.”

Susan is learning about healthy boundaries and household management.  “Before coming to the mission my life was unmanageable, without purpose.  I turned to drugs and alcohol.  Now I have purpose.  Jesus is the head of my life.  I will be forever grateful to Bikers With A Mission for assisting me with the medications I need, and for the bus passes so I can get to doctors’ appointments.  Thank you so much.”

Scott and Michelle are a young married couple who had been living on the streets using drugs.  Michelle describes their past life as chaotic.  Scott says, “At City Union Mission I’ve learned what my “stuck” points are in life.  We’re drug free and now in a happy marriage.  I’m patterning my life around Jesus.”  Michelle agrees, “That’s right.  We’ve learned how to establish healthy life skills. We are so grateful to Bikers With A Mission.  Without the bus passes we wouldn’t have been able to get back and forth to the doctor and other appointments.  It’s because of people like you that we receive the necessary help to change our lives.  Thank you Bikers With A Mission for opening your hearts and your pocketbooks!”

On Sunday, May 6, 600 motorcyclists with a heart for the homeless planned to ride 100 miles for the 18th annual “Bikers with a Mission” to raise money for the poor and homeless of City Union Mission.  The dangerous weather conditions prevented that.  “We do the ride rain or shine,” said Teddy Bitner, BWAM’s Director.  “We ended up with about 120 bikers compared to the usual 600, raising almost $8,500 compared to last year’s $20,630.”  Cycle Disciples of Kansas City facilitated the event.  Please click here to find out how you can still participate.

Each year there are important items not budgeted, like baby formula, nursery equipment, eyeglasses, bus tokens for job interviews, and utility assistance.  City Union Mission relies upon BWAM proceeds to cover these expenses.  Please help us help our clients now by clicking here, or by clicking on the donate now button.   Be sure to designate BWAM in the comments/prayer box.

You can also mail in your donation to City Union Mission at: 1100 E. 11th Street, KCMO  64104.  Again, be sure to designate BWAM.

The above mentioned guests are enrolled in City Union Mission’s New Life Program, a long term recovery program for families and single women staying at the Mission's Family Shelter.  It’s a four-to-eight month program that offers rehabilitation to whole families. Members attend Bible study, local churches and have regular counseling sessions. Life Skills courses guide each person toward a healthier lifestyle. Families live in the shelter while parents and children alike stabilize and prepare to move into permanent housing.
