The Give 8 Ask 8 initiative has its roots in a heartwarming story from Kansas City Police Officer Sgt. Dan Carney. In 1988, he helped a man with a gift of $8 for gas so he could make it to a job interview. 21 years later that same man contacted Sgt. Carney, returning the $8. Sgt. Carney has, in turn, given that $8 to City Union Mission to help stimulate fund raising to benefit the poor or homeless. The initiative is to give $8 and to ask 8 others to do the same.
