Annual Report

2008 Inaugural Invitation

Later that year, the women – with names like Armour, Gillis, Troost, Coates and Loose among them – opened the “Working Women’s Home” at 11th and McGee.

-from the history of the Women’s Christian Association

You are invited to be part of an exciting inaugural event that is incredibly important: the historic support for some of the most needy in our City. On Thursday, April 17th, 2008, City Union Mission will present Women Who’ve Changed the Heart of the City. The event will be held as a luncheon on the stage of Starlight Theater to honor women whose vision, passion and effort have truly changed the heart of our City.

We are excited about the possibilities for this event and the many dimensions of our theme.  Whether we look to women in Our Town’s history like City Union Mission founder, Beulah Bulkley, and early philanthropist Ella Loose, or the many examples of women who have been change agents to tackle some of our city’s most pressing concerns, we have the opportunity with this event to bridge that history and shine a light on women who are working every day to change the “heart” of the City.

I am thrilled to let you know that the following remarkable women will be among our inaugural class of honorees:

  • Anita Gorman
  • Shirley Helzberg
  • Mamie Hughes
  • Carol Marinovich
  • Jeannette Nichols

Please reserve April 17th at 11am on your calendar to join us as a sponsor or table host. Another one of Kansas City’s outstanding women, Adele Hall, will be hosting High Tea on February 28th for table hosts and patrons.

Sponsorship opportunities range from $1,500 to $50,000. In addition, we gratefully accept individual patron and benefactor-level tickets. Recognition and sponsor benefits can be found here.

While Pat and I have been involved with City Union Mission for only a few years, I happily agreed to lead this event because of the amazing work the Mission does to help poor, homeless and needy men, women and families get the help they need to turn their lives around.

Thank you, again, for considering this request. If you have questions, please feel free to contact me (816-304-7186 direct) or you may reach Dennis Chapman, the Mission’s Associate Executive Director of Development at 816-329-1476 or dennisc@cumission.org

Sincerely,

Beth McCown
Event Chair Woman
