From the Desk of Dan Doty
Did you attend camp as a child? I did. I loved camp. I was hungry for the added attention, fun, friends and food. That’s why I love Camp CUMCITO.
The most important goal of Camp CUMCITO is to share the love of our Savior with homeless and urban children. If you could spend a day at camp, you would come to tears as you heard and saw the love of Jesus shared in ways the children understand and desperately need.
The blessing of Camp CUMCITO extends even to the families of the children who attend. Parents get a needed break. Then, the children return home, telling family members about the food, fun and loving staff. The Mission continues to be an important part of these children’s lives as they attend winter retreats or the Vanderberg Youth Center.
The most wonderful reward of investing in the children’s lives is to see them mature over the years and even return as camp volunteers. For many, camp helps them stop the cycle of poverty and dysfunction in their lives.
Unfortunately, this camp season City Union Mission will be stretched thin financially. Currently, we’re experiencing a significant budget shortfall. We are more than $400,000 behind on revenue, as compared with last year’s figures. And as demand for care grows, the deficit is further compounded we must provide more services with fewer funds.
We trust God to use His people to bring in the funds needed to care for the poor and homeless. Do pray with us. Give as you are able. Encourage others to consider helping as well. Thank you!
