You Can Help the Homeless
Getting Involved
Sponsor a Drive
City Union Mission has a plethora of year-round drives, which are a fun way for individuals and groups to provide many of the supplies we need every day in our ministry.
For instance, through the Medicine Chest drive, you can collect over-the-counter medications to help provide medical services. Or, the Great Cover-up drive provides the Mission with blankets and coats to keep the homeless warm.

Participate in Special Events
Every year, the Mission sponsors community-wide events to benefit the homeless. We saw some amazing accomplishments in 2005:
Through our Hy-Vee Stuff A Truck food drive, we received $77,128.72 in groceries for the hungry. And during the Celebration of Love event, we filled our pantry with hams, 612 turkeys and 4,000 pounds of additional food items for the holidays and beyond.
Our School Supply Drive, aided by the 94.9 KCMO Stuff the Bus promotion, provided 1,584 backpacks filled with supplies for low-income children.
Through our annual Bikers with a Mission fund-raising event, bikers with a heart rode 100 miles to raise $23,521 for the poor and homeless.
Share Your Resources
Your tax-deductible gifts to the Mission literally change lives. Here are just a few of the ways you can help:
Join the BED & BREAD CLUB. By making a monthly pledge of just $15 or more, you can ensure the homeless receive shelter (bed) and food (bread) every day.
Give a cash gift. Your gifts allow us to cover the considerable daily costs of running a rescue mission this size. We use your gifts prudently, stretching each dollar as we provide efficient and effective service to those in need.
Make a planned gift. Leave a legacy of love by including the Mission in your will, donating appreciated stocks, setting up a charitable gift annuity or making the Mission the beneficiary of a life insurance plan. You will not only help the homeless long into the future, you will realize important tax benefits now.
Donate good, usable items. We always need items to resell in our Second Chance Thrift Stores. Excess business inventory, unusable merchandise or even collectibles we can resell to generate funds for our life-saving programs.
Share a Meal. Treat the homeless to dinner. Your designated donation can provide dinner for a night at either of our shelters.
