It is More than Going to Church
"The biggest person who changed from camp was me," laughs John Carter, volunteer camp counselor from Sharon Baptist Church. "I learned that being a Christian and following Jesus is a lot more than going to church and not doing the wrong things."

One of John’s cabin mates came with a big chip on his shoulder. His dad wasn’t around and he lived with his mom in a rundown home. Another couldn’t read and didn’t have enough clothes for the week. The boys’ rough home lives were quickly apparent to John.
After a couple days at camp though, their demeanors began to change and they started opening up. As many campers do, one of the boys in John’s cabin made a decision for Christ.
The kids gather around and want to play with you because you are a male and you want to have something to do with them," John says. "They see that a man can be responsible and can care for kids. They get a break from their lives."
