Building the Walls that Rebuild Lives - The Need

Kansas City looks much different today than in 1924 when Rev. David Bulkley moved his family to Skid Row to start a Gospel mission that would reach out to the lost and broken on the streets. Medical advances and technology have changed our world in ways we could never have imagined.

Yet, thousands of our neighbors are still hungry and in need of a home.  Nothing has changed that fact.

In 2006, City Union Mission provided 296,785 nourishing meals and 127,761 nights of emergency and long-term shelter for homeless men, women and families. If only that were enough to meet the needs here in Kansas City ...

Demand for emergency shelter for men increased 39 percent over the last three years. Many winter nights, men must sleep on mats on the floor in the Mission’s dining hall because our beds are filled.

For those homeless men who want to change their lives, regain their self-respect and become contributing members of the community, we offer our Christian Life Program (CLP). Each month, there are 20 to 50 men ready to join the CLP, but can’t because it too is full.

When these men make the gut-wrenching decision to change their lives, we must not turn them away. You can help!
