Connecting with You
From the Executive Director
Dear Friends,
At City Union Mission, we believe God loves ALL of us, and He has a very unique purpose and plan for EACH of our lives - a plan that begins with knowing Jesus as personal Savior and Lord. God has entrusted this ministry to be a conduit of His Gospel message to the homeless and afflicted in Kansas City and to help them build lives of meaning and direction.
We have the exciting opportunity to increase the effectiveness and breadth of our ministry through our second-ever capital campaign. We’re calling the campaign Building the Walls that Rebuild Lives. We’ve been in the silent phase of this campaign where we endeavored to raise the majority of the funds. In this issue of The Light, we are turning to you - our faithful supporters - to help us finish the job and reach our goal.
Our immediate need is to raise $3,000,000 by January 10, 2008, to meet a challenge grant issued by The J. E. and L. E. Mabee Foundation, Inc. If we reach $10,543,000 by January 10, they will make a grant of $500,000 to the campaign. Currently we’re more than 70 percent of the way there! Will you pray? Can you help with this crucial project?
In this issue, we also highlight our eighth annual Celebrate Hope: Reach Out to K.C.’s Poor and Homeless holiday campaign. Each fall, we ask compassionate friends like you to help us raise half of our annual budget - or $3,000,000 - between October 1 and January 31 to ensure our year-round ministry to rescue and restore the less fortunate in our community.
These figures are staggering to us, but thankfully, we know they aren’t to God. God takes what we give and multiplies it to help us reach what we have carefully and prayerfully budgeted. Again, will you pray? Will you continue to give as God directs and provides?
For His Glory!
