A Chance for a New Life!

Often single women and families cycle in and out of homelessness for years, driven by addiction, unhealthy relationships, financial problems and poor job skills. They keep doing the same things so they keep getting the same results.

Erin grew up being abused by her father and neglected by her mother. She married James with the belief she was putting abuse behind her. But when James lost his job, he started using drugs; then, he started hitting her.

Erin realized she had to get herself and her two children away from the abuse. "I don’t want my kids growing up thinking this is normal," she shares.

Knowing she had to make some drastic changes in her life, Erin and her kids came to City Union Mission and joined the New Life Program (NLP) for families.

In the NLP, our staff addresses education, budgeting and parenting skills, health issues, addiction, codependency, family reconciliation and spiritual maturity. And while their parents work toward recovery, school-age children attend public school and participate in the Vanderberg Youth Center, children’s church and other programs to help them heal and grow.

"I want to thank the donors who enable City Union Mission to reach out to people like me," Erin says.  "They have given me and my kids a chance for a new life!"
