Let the Lord Lead
Sam came to City Union Mission scared for his life. Involved with drugs and organized crime, he fled to Kansas City and City Union Mission simply for a place to hide.
"When I first got here, I was doing things to just get by. I wanted food to eat and a place to sleep." Then Sam made the life-changing decision to join our Christian Life Program (CLP).
Men in the CLP participate in classes in budgeting, nutrition, decision-making, anger management, addiction relapse prevention and more to stabilize and prepare to live independently. One-on-one counseling combined with support groups and Bible study help residents replace old, destructive habits with new attitudes of responsibility, accountability and self-confidence.
"The Mission saved my life," Sam says. "They brought the Lord into my heart."
Recently, Sam interviewed for a job with a delivery company. This spring, he’ll graduate from CLP and move into our Transitional Living Program with confidence he’s put his old lifestyle behind him.
"When I’m dealing with something or tempted to fall back into old habits, I’ve got the Lord on my side!" he boasts. "It’s exciting for me to know I can go out into the world not looking over my shoulder."
