A Growing Need

Many people think all the homeless need to be successful is a job and a place to live.  But the issues facing homeless men, women and children are increasingly complex: addiction to drugs, mental illness, lack of academic, vocational and computer skills, domestic and street violence, inadequate parenting and poor money management.

Our Christian Life Program for men and New Life Program for women and families are designed to effectively help participants overcome these obstacles and give them the skills and knowledge necessary to achieve healthy, stable lives.

During this decade, the number of men who found emergency shelter at the Mission grew 44 percent.  More and more of these homeless men are ready to make a long-term commitment to recovery.  Sadly, each month we turn away 20 to 30 menwho apply to join the program because we don’t have enough room.

Every day at City Union Mission we ask ourselves, “What would God have us do to meet the needs of those He has placed before us?”  We are not alone in this quest.  God has provided this ministry with friends like you who really want to make a lasting impact on hurting men, women and children.

And when compassion and commitment meet need, amazing things can happen!
