Matthew 25 Award for Outstanding Corporate Involvement
Recipients: 94.9 KCMO, KCMO 710, KCFX - 101 The Fox (Cumulus Media)
Through the years, these radio stations have blessed the Mission with thousands of dollars worth of free on-air promotions and remotes.
For instance, 94.9 KCMO has partnered with us for six years to hold the Stuff the Bus promotion, which involves weekly remotes, on-air exposure and corporate partnership. Similarly, both KCMO 710 and 101 The Fox host Have a Heart for the Homeless gift-in-kind promotions and sponsor canned good drives.
A Cup in His Name Award for Exemplary Church Involvement
Recipient: Canaan Worship Center
For years, this church with a big heart has poured its time, treasures and talent into the ministry of City Union Mission. In addition to donating funds to make our ministry possible, Canaan Worship Center provides dedicated volunteers and takes on much-needed roles in the Mission’s day-to-day operations. For example, they organize and host a regular family night at our Family Center, provide chapel services in our Men’s Center and prepare meals for our Christian Life Program.
Association of Gospel Rescue Missions Rescuer Award for Outstanding Volunteerism
Recipient: Teddy Bitner
Each May, the Bikers With a Mission benefit motorcycle run earns thousands of dollars for the poor and homeless. Planning this huge event takes an entire year. We simply couldn’t do it without the tireless work of volunteer event facilitator Teddy Bitner, president of Cycle Disciples. To pull off BWAM, Teddy leads monthly planning meetings, raises funds, keeps up with the BWAM Web site and generates enthusiasm within the biking community.
Barnabas Award for Church Ambassadors
Recipient: Ed Golden
Since becoming a City Union Mission Church Ambassador, Ed has helped his church, the Overland Park Church of Christ, become more involved in our ministry. The church adopted a Hy-Vee store during our Stuff-A-Truck drives and has given truckloads of clothes and other items to the Mission during our seasonal drives.
