Smart Giving Through the Servant Christian Community Foundation

There are many ways you can give to the ministry of City Union Mission that not only help the homeless, but benefit you as well. Consider this hypothetical story:

Katherine and Mark Smith bought a piece of property for $50,000 that today is worth $500,000. This generous couple wants to sell the property and donate the proceeds to City Union Mission, but they are alarmed to discover that if they do so, they will incur huge tax expenses.

Then, the Smiths learn about our partnership with the Servant Christian Community Foundation (SCCF), a recognized leader in accepting and liquidating innovative gifts, such as real estate. The Smiths decide to give their property directly to SCCF. After liquidating the property, SCCF puts the proceeds into the Smith’s giving fund, which they use to recommend grants to their favorite ministry.

By making their gift to the Mission through a donation to SCCF, this couple saved $94,500 in capital gains taxes and received a $38,745 deduction on their income taxes.

This situation is fictitious, but the tax benefits described here are very real. To find out how you can support City Union Mission through a gift to the SCCF, please contact Dennis Chapman at (816) 474-9380, ext. 1476 or e-mail DennisC@cumission.org.
