Mission Steps Up Volunteer Recruitment
So many compassionate people want to help the poor and homeless at City Union Mission. Yet when Sharon Bednarczyk, volunteer administrator, and Pat Brodnax, volunteer specialist, seek volunteers to assist with our special events and activities, they often have trouble finding people willing to commit ahead of time to fill the open positions.
To help get the word out about the array of informal volunteer opportunities available here, the volunteer department is launching a target recruitment effort. Staff members hope to meet with church leaders to discover their congregations’ strengths and passions, so they can plug church members into vacant volunteer slots.
For instance, says Sharon, "We struggle to have enough interviewers for the School Supply Drive every year. If a church has an evangelistic team, this would be the perfect outreach - it’s an easy way to share the Gospel and be an encouragement to believers."
