There are two ways that you can participate in volunteer service with City Union Mission: High Impact Volunteers commit to a specific position and time-slot, for a specified length of time and are available throughout each area of the Mission; Informal Opportunities serve by participating in special projects and events.
High Impact Positions:
- Community New Life Program Assistant - Mentor community clients for one year.
Job Coach Assistant - Offer career readiness services to clients before and during their job search. (Mon.-Fri., 8:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m.) - VYC Chapel Assistant - Assist, plan, lead and/or teach chapel for children ages 7-17.
(Tues., 6:00-8:00 p.m.) - Musician - Lead singing and provide special music during veteran's chapel services.
(prefer male, fourth Tuesdays of the month, 6:30-8:00 p.m.) - Saturday Recreation Assistant - Coordinate, facilitate and supervise gym games and game room for Family Shelter youth. (Sat., 9:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m.)
- 2nd Chance Thrift Stores - Various volunteer positions, from cashier to sorter/receiving clerk.
(Lexington store: Mon.-Sat., 9:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m.; Wornall store: Mon.-Thurs., 10:00 a.m.-8:00 p.m., Fri.-Sat., 10:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m.)
Informal Opportunities (for individuals or groups):
- Sort Clothing and Household Items - for clients or to sell in our 2nd Chance Thrift Stores. (Mon.-Sat., groups up to 150, 14-year-old minimum age)
- Camp Bus Monitors - Ride with the children to or from camp in Warsaw, Mo. (Mon. and Sat. through Aug. 5)
- School Supplies - Screen families, care for kids, share the Gospel or move supplies.
(July 25- Aug. 22, Mon.-Sat., mond afternoons)
