High-Impact Volunteer Service
Volunteers at City Union Mission are integral partners with the Mission staff to help further the Kingdom work of Jesus Christ. A High-Impact Volunteer at City Union Mission is someone who has:
- Sensed God’s calling to use their God-given gifts, skills and talents to serve the poor and homeless of Kansas City.
- Sensed God’s leading to partner with City Union Mission to fulfill the Great Commandment of sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ and making disciples.
- Made a 6 to 12 month commitment to regularly serve on a weekly or monthly basis in a volunteer capacity that expresses their gifts, talents and passions.

Driver for Men's Ministry Clients
Saturday Recreation Assistant-VYC -
Have a part in meeting spiritual, physical, and emotional needs of children by rewarding them for good behavior in Shelter Chapel. Coordinate, facilitate, and supervise gym games and game room.
Fitness and Nutrition Instructor -
Man needed to train men in nutrition and physical fitness, promoting healthy lifestyle disciplines and choices. Provide fitness and nutrition instruction, developing a health plan and program, implementation and oversight of program.
Chaplain's Assistant - Men's Shelter -
To assist the Chaplain in coordinating the daytime chapel services and other efforts to assist guests in their spiritual development. Once a week for 3-6 hours, for one year. Mon. – Sat., 6:00 a.m. to noon
Qualifications:
* Christian man, preferably with pastoral experience.
* Solid understanding of the Scriptures and biblical principles.
* Some experience with counseling people out of the Scriptures.
* Good computer/record-keeping skills.
* Ability to be creative and adapt while responding to occasional awkward or difficult situations.
Responsibilities:
* Coordinate and greet chapel providers.
* Fill in as chapel speaker when chapel providers fail to show.
* Conduct new-guest spiritual assessment.
* Maintain appearance and orderliness of the chapel and prayer room.
* Seek to exemplify Jesus Christ daily, being prepared to share the Gospel and encouragement as opportunities arise.
Organize donated clothes and distribute them to Christian Life Program clients or to over night shelter guests, while engaging the men in Godly conversation.
One-year commitment, one day per week. Mon. 5:00 – 6:00 p.m., Thur. 4:00 – 6:00 p.m., or Sat. 10:00 – 11:30 a.m.
Qualifications:
* Must be a Christian
* Good organizational skills
* Data entry/computer skills
* Good people skills, relates well
* Good record keeping skills
Responsibilities:
* Issue clothing to Christian Life Program men and over-night guests
* Keep clothing room neat, orderly, and well-stocked
* Keep accurate records of clothing received and disbursed
* Create clothing orders for thrift stores
* Engage clients in Godly conversation
Driver for Men's Ministry Clients -
To assist City Union Mission staff by transporting Men’s Ministry clients to appointments that are critical to their progress through the recovery process, such as court dates, doctors appts., job interviews, etc).
One year commitment. At least one or two days a week or on-call status.
Serving weekly: Monday-Friday. Times will vary, usually 8:00-4:00 availability.
