Saturday Recreation Assistant-VYC -

Have a part in meeting spiritual, physical, and emotional needs of children by rewarding them for good behavior in Shelter Chapel.  Coordinate, facilitate, and supervise gym games and game room.

Office Assistant - Christian Life Program -

Assisting CLP Asst. Administrator with word processing, filing, data entry and general office duties to better facilitate efficient ministry recordkeeping, communication, scheduling and programming.

Learning Center Academic Assistant -

Empower men in our Men's Center with the academic/ career skills necessary for them to contribute to society and to the Christian community. Administer academic assessments, monitor classroom of computer stations, answer questions, possible tutoring. Must be male. (afternoon and evening hours M-F)  Urgent need for a Wednesday night volunteer from 5 to 7 pm.

Assist women and/or men in our Family Center as they go through computer programs to improve academic skills. Must be female. (afternoons M-F)

Elementary School Tutor -

Equipping children to achieve their fullest potential by assisting them in their educational process.  To provide a Christian example through role modeling and encouragement.  Assist students in daily homework and enhance critical skill development in necessary growth areas for the academic success of the student.

Youth Coordinator Assistant-VYC -

Help equip young people to succeed in their future lives, by providing a Christian role model, along with encouragement (i.e., academic enrichment, Bible lessons).  Work with either elementary, middle or high school students by assisting the Youth Coordinator in varied classroom activities.

Fitness and Nutrition Instructor -

Man needed to train men in nutrition and physical fitness, promoting healthy lifestyle disciplines and choices. Provide fitness and nutrition instruction, developing a health plan and program, implementation and oversight of program.

Middle-High School Tutor -

Equipping adolescents to achieve their fullest potential by assisting them in their educational process.  To provide a Christian example through role modeling and encouragement.  Assist students in daily homework and enhance critical skill development in necessary growth areas for the academic success of the student.

VYC Chapel Assistant/Shelter Children (7-11) -

Present Christ to children and provide discipleship to those who are growing spiritually.  Multi-experience including assisting, planning and leading and/or teaching chapel.

Community Assistance Processor - Thrift Store -

Represent Jesus Christ to Community Assistance clients by enabling low-income individuals to acquire clothing and necessary items at no cost or minimal cost. Lead Community Assistance clients  through the process of using their certificates to obtain clothing, furniture or house wares.

INFORMAL SERVICE

Data Entry Assistant -

Seeking a volunteer that loves performing repetitive tasks.  The volunteer is responsible for  inputting data into our Raiser's Edge database.  The volunteer must be bondable and have good computer skills.  Training will be provided on Raiser's Edge.   The hours are 8 am to 4 pm, Monday thru Friday.  Would prefer someone that can volunteer a minimum of 4 hours at a time.

Gift Wrapper -

Do you love to wrap presents?  If the answer is yes, please plan to volunteer this year to wrap presents for the families that shop in our free Christmas Store.

Gift wrapping begins on December 2nd from 9 am to 4 pm, Monday thru Friday.  The location is 1100 E. 11th Street, City Union Mission's Administration Building.  Please contact Pat at (816) 329-1487 or by email at patb@cumission.org to sign up.

Christmas Store Set-Up -

Volunteers are needed to help display toys and small household items on shelves, and decorate the store beginning November 7th thru November 21st, from 9 am to 4 pm, Monday - Friday.  The Christmas Store is located at City Union Mission's Family Center, 1310 Wabash.

Christmas Decorator for Family Center -

Do you love to decorate for the Holidays?

Come assist us and decorate the gym and hallways at City Union Mission's Family Center on Friday, November 28th from 9:00 am to 9:30 pm.   This is the beginning of our Christmas season and on Saturday, December 1st, donors will begin bringing gifts for our free Christmas Store so that those less fortunate can shop for their families.

Decorations are supplied, we just need volunteers.

Christmas Store Client Host/Hostess -

Assist clients in their selection process ensuring that the gifts are age appropriate.  Ensure that all gifts are properly tagged and prepared for the gift wrappers.   Help keep the store organized as time permits.

The Christmas Store opens on December 1st (hours are 9 am - 4 pm weekdays) with a late night on Thursdays until 6:30 pm.  The store closes on December 19th.

Stuff A Truck -

Hy-Vee and City Union Mission will partner this year in the Stuff A Truck event.  The event will run from October 1st to November 16th.  Hy-Vee is asking for volunteers in only eight of their stores.  There is also a need for a volunteer coordinator for each store as well.

 
The dates volunteers will serve in the stores are, Friday, November 14th and Saturday, November 15, 2008, from 10 am to 4 pm.  The stores are asking for 4 volunteers for each 3 hour shift (these times and numbers may change depending on the times the volunteers are available to serve).  The other 14 stores will have coupons at their registers for the customers to choose from.

New Year's Eve Gala -

Help bring some cheer to our client's this New Year's Eve (12/31/2008).

Make this event a festive one with food, music, and games.  For the Overnight Men's Shelter,  the Christian Life Program men, and our Family Center families.  We need popcorn, chips and dip, beverages (hot and cold) finger sandwiches, cookies, cakes, pies, nuts, hot wings, and ice cream.

Youth groups or anyone with musical talent, please come and sing along side our clients and bring the New Year in with old spiritual songs.
