A Doorway of Hope

Hurting people come to City Union Mission with no hope, often wondering if anyone cares. The Mission provides food, clothing, a warm bed for the night, and most importantly, the gospel of Jesus Christ...a reason to hope again. City Union Mission annually provides meals for the hungry and 85,000 beds for the weary. All praise goes to God for His provision through His people. Poor, homeless and disadvantaged men, women and children all find an open door that leads to response and relief at City Union Mission.

Homeless Men's Ministry

Each day, dozens of men come to the City Union Mission Men's Center for clothing, food and a temporary refuge from life on the streets. Here they find people who care about them, who listen to them and work with them to meet their physical and spiritual needs.

Women and Family Shelter

The Emergency Family Shelter at City Union Mission is a haven for families and single women. There are many causes of homelessness in families, including financial setbacks, addiction, family violence and mental illness. The Family Shelter provides a safe place to stay, nutritious meals, spiritual counsel and case management to address and help resolve some of the issues they face.

Hotline for the Homeless

Thousands of homeless people find shelter from the streets through the Hotline for the Homeless, a service of City Union Mission. Men, women and families call the Hotline at (816) 474-4599 to find out which Kansas City shelters can provide temporary shelter for the night. The Hotline, a free service, works with other shelters to provide accurate information 24 hours a day, handling around 19,000 calls each year.

Medical Services

City Union Mission offers free medical care to indigent men, women and families. The Men's Shelter, located at 1108 East 10th Street, offers a six-bed infirmary for free convalescent care in K.C. for homeless men recovering from injury and illness.

To request placement in the infirmary please call 816-474-9380, extension 1465.  City Union Mission’s nurse is not on duty on the weekends.  In the event you need help at that time please ask to speak with a Chaplain or Supervisor to get authorization for placement.

Patients need to be able to take care of themselves and be independent with their medications, dressing changes and mobility. Home health services can be set up through an agency if the agency, shelter and patient are in agreement. City Union Mission is unable to accommodate special diets.  Most of the food is high in salt and fat. Infirmary residents are allowed to stay inside around the clock.
